"But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful." (Psalms 68:3 NIV)
The Lord has seen fit to give us all the beauty, glory, and awesome diversity of His creation for our pleasure and survival. As if that weren't enough, He also gave us (among countless other gifts and abilities) a sense of humor with which to appreciate those aspects of human behavior we can't quite explain any other way.
Please join me as I explore, through my books, blogs, newsletter, and photography, what makes us human beings different from the other creatures in our world--those humorous, irritating, unexplainable, witty, and hilarious character traits we see in others, and yes, let's face it, that others see in us.

A PEEK AT ME...

Hello! I'm Deborah Dee Harper, author of inspirational and humorous books for both children and adults. I live in Murfreesboro, TN now after spending a year in Alaska. Before that, I lived in Murfreesboro for five years, and prior to that, I lived on Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, for four years. Confused? Sometimes I am too. Basically, it was four years in Alaska, five in Tennessee, one back up in Alaska, and now back in Tennessee.
While I was in Alaska I enjoyed all that the Last Frontier had to offer---beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers, trails, forests, glaciers, and of course, wild animals. We saw moose, black bears and grizzly bears, whales, sea lions, bald eagles, foxes, wolves, Dall sheep, ptmarigans, otters, you-name-it. If it lived in Alaska, we saw it, and in the wild, no less. We also survived several earthquakes and even a volcano!
A few years before my Anchorage experience, I lived at another base, Eielsen Air Force Base near Fairbanks, Alaska (yes, yet another Alaska visit), where we weathered temperatures that often reach -50 degrees! But the Aurora Borealis (northern lights) more than made up for the frigid cold. They danced across the nighttime sky in curtains of green and red---glorious beyond words.
I worked at a mid-sized school district in Michigan for 24 years before taking an early retirement and writing fulltime. I've written newspaper columns, feature articles, poetry, essays, greeting cards, and also been published in several anthologies, Chicken Soup for the Sister's Soul, and extensively online.
I'm the proud mother of three grown children. Derek lives in Michigan with his lovely wife, Renee, and their two handsome boys, Tyler and Adam. My youngest child, daughter Dennae, lives in Kentucky with her husband, Richie, and their also handsome boys, Dustin, Hunter, and Cannon. I live with my middle child, Darice, and her beautiful little girl, Molly.
My family, experiences, and love for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ have impacted my writing enormously. I hope you'll enjoy my work. I love hearing from readers, so please feel free to contact me by checking out my Contact page.

The Books
MISSTEP--Book #1 of the Road's End series
.jpg)
It's December in Road's End, Virginia, a tiny town long forgotten by anyone but its residents, where Colonel Hugh Foster and his wife, Melanie, have chosen to live--for better or worse. The jury's still out on that one!
Road's End is comprised entirely of senior citizens whose kids have grown and left for greener pastures. Hugh, Melanie, and Bristol (one of the few sane people in town) are faced with a crumbling church in desperate need of repair and renovation, a dwindling congregation of opinionated, ornery senior citizens, and a camel--yes, a camel. And if that's not enough, the trio and the rest of the Road's End residents, are soon mired in danger and intrigue when a group of gun-toting drug dealers arrive in town, bent on killing the church handyman, and conspiring to ruin the doggonedest record-breaking blizzard the town has ever seen.
Poor drug dealers.
LORD
FAUX PAS--Book #2 of the Road's End series

Heaven help the president!
What would you do if you discovered, by accident, no less, that the President of the United States was attending your daughter's wedding in less than two weeks?
Panic. You'd panic, I tell you.
That's what the parents of the bride, Pastor Hugh Foster and his wife Melanie did. Add in a severe storm, crazy senior citizens who believe the POTUS lied his way into office, a crumbling, but historic church you happen pastor, a cranky Secret Service agent, a four-year-old grandchild-to-be you know nothing about, and a son-in-law-to-be whose faith in the Lord has waned, and well ... you've got yourself a humdinger of a wedding. Not to mention that same future son-in-law is a University of Michigan Wolverines fan (gasp! ... not a Michigan State Spartans fan) and prefers sweet tea to unsweetened. My gosh, what is the world coming to? Talk about a faux pas! Well, good luck with all that, Pastor Foster.
MISJUDGE--Book #3 of the Road's End series

It's autumn in Road's End, Virginia, and love is floating around along with the leaves tumbling to the ground. There's a nip in the air and Thanksgiving is right around the corner (and up the hill), and that means Pastor Hugh Foster will have a smorgasbord of tasty dishes prepared by the good ladies (and great cooks) in town to enjoy. He can hardly wait.
What he'd just as soon forget, though, is the gathering of as-yet-unannounced dignitaries who will soon invade the tiny, historic village for a one-of-a-kind peace summit. So much could go wrong; why on earth did President Stuart Thomas Rogers think that the insanity capital of the world would be a good place to hold a summit of any kind, let alone one to promote peace? It's a mystery for the ages and one only God can orchestrate. The POTUS's head Secret Service agent feels the same way, but for reasons far more personal than anyone else could know.
And amidst the blooming love and the craziness that only the good citizens of Road's End can dish up, everyone learns that regret is a dish best not served at all.
Laramie on the Lam
A rip-roarin' children's adventure series!
Laramie Wyoming (from where else? Laramie, Wyoming!) is used to finding himself in trouble with his parents. After all, what 11-year-old boy loves to clean his room or take out the garbage? But that kind of trouble is nothing compared to the problems he encounters when he finds himself embroiled in a bank robbery. Thinking he's being polite by holding the door open for some men while on his way inside to get some coin wrappers, Laramie later discovers the men were bank robbers and one of them stashed $30,000 in his backpack on the way out the door. Talk about finding himself in deep water. The police are looking for him, the bank robbers want their money back, and Mom and Dad are fit to be tied.
The excitement never ends as Laramie, his sister Cheyenne, and his parents take a year to travel the country in a motorhome so his mom can do research on her latest travel book. Not only do the bank robbers follow them all across the country, but Laramie is joined by another boy--a kid with whom he would never in his wildest dreams willingly spend a year trapped in a motorhome!
Join Laramie, his loyal black lab Maestro, his family, and the mystery kid as they travel from Wyoming to the east coast, back to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, along the Alcan Highway and the Yukon Territory in Canada to Alaska, back to the south for the holidays, and finally back up in Alaska again. Everything would be fine except those darned bank robbers won't give up, and fearing he would ruin his parents' trip, he never tells them they're being trailed all along the way by the bad guys. They visit lots of cool locations, learn some interesting things about each place they visit, and see sights and wildlife he never thought he would see.
Each book is a stand-alone, but the mystery finally wraps up in book #6. Are you ready to be thrilled, laugh out loud, be inspired, and learn cool stuff? Join Laramie on the Lam!

In addition to my writing, I love to take photographs. My mission is to show people the overwhelming number of beautiful things--big and small--that God places in our paths every single day. Not every one sees everything, of course, but God certainly places beauty in our paths--those things He wants us to see. It's up to us to be as mindful as possible as of the beauty of creation that He handpicks for each one of us. Don't forget to look up (or down). He might have placed something there just for you. Check back often--I'll change these pictures (or add to them) on occasion!

Great news!
It’s been a while since I last published STILL Laughing with the Lord, but I’ve been busy in the meantime. I have wonderful news for you today. The first book of the Road’s End series, Misstep, was published by Write Integrity Press in August of 2015. The second book, Faux Pas, was released in 2017.
My big news this year is that Write Integrity Press has released the second edition of Laramie on the Lam, my children’s six-book adventure series for kids. It’s funny, inspirational, and filled with lots of wildlife, bad guys, good guys, and great locations. I’ve included study guides at the end of each book so you can ask your kids what they learned about the locations Laramie and his family visit. You can find all six books of the Laramie on the Lam series, as well as Misstep and Faux Pas here: https://tinyurl.com/y7mqlhv3
It’s not too late to get your copy of Where In the World is Road’s End?, which will give which you a deeper background on the looney… whoops, eccentric—yeah, that’s what I meant to say—eccentric characters who populate this tiny village. All you have to do is drop me a line at deborahdeetales@gmail.com and I’ll send it out to you right away!
Don’t say I didn’t warn you! You’re in for a treat (even if I am tooting my own horn!).
